A few weeks ago, we introduced you to some special Xiaomi mobile phones that came primarily from the upper-middle category. The AMOLED display Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite has been on sale ever since, and at $275, one of the best buy in its category, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is similarly recommended for $219.
In the category under $200, we also find several good mobiles, two of which I would highlight, the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 models. Both Redmi phones came out this spring and are very similar not only in their name but also in their capabilities.

Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9S - Which one should I choose?
Both phones have a FullHD+ resolution display, while the Note 9S boasts a slightly larger 6.67-inch screen compared to the Note’s 6.53 size. It’s not really a big difference, it’s about 3-4 millimeters longer than the S-model, which is really not significant.
Staying on the front panel, the front cameras and their location are different. The Redmi Note 9S, 16-megapixel camera has been moved to the center, while the Note 9, 13-megapixel camera has moved to the top left corner.
The most striking difference is to be found under the back cover: the Redmi Note 9S got the same Snapdragon 720G processor we already got to know with the Redmi Note 9 Pro. The system chip, made with 8 nm manufacturing technology, provides excellent performance in all areas, and its increased graphic clock can be used in games.
The Redmi Note 9 opted for a slightly cheaper and slightly slower solution for this task, in the person of the 12-nanometer MediaTek G85 system chip. For average use, this eight-core processor is also good, but those who prefer to play the phone, the Note 9S is recommended.
In addition to the processors, the Redmi Note 9, 3 and 4 GB, respectively, while the Note 9S has 4 and 6 GB of memory, there is no difference in the amount of mass storage. Both Redmi phones are available in both 64 and 128 GB versions.
There’s no significant difference in the rear-view cameras either, as for both mobiles, the primary imager captures images using a 48-megapixel Samsung image sensor, along with an 8-megapixel wide-angle and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Perhaps a little better in macro mode, the Note 9S has a 5-megapixel camera here, while the Note 9 has a 2-megapixel macro camera.
In the case of the Note 9, the fingerprint reader is shown below the rear camera quad, while in the case of the Note 9S, like the Redmi Note 9 Pro, it is hidden in the side power button. The latter may be a little more practical, but in fact everyone may have a different solution.
If we continue to browse the list of properties of the two phones, we can no longer discover a bigger difference. Both models have excellent uptime thanks to the large 5020 mAh battery.
We don't see any differences in communication either: dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, excellent GPS capability, MIUI V11 operating system based on international Android 10, global LTE support.
And even though the Redmi Note 9S got the same processor as the Redmi Note 9 Pro, NFC is not available on this device. Redmi Note 9 has a release that has NFC support, so check the specifications on that web store before you buy.
You can now order the 3GB/64GB NFC-free version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 for $139 as a coupon, while the 4GB/128GB NFC-equipped version is available for $169.
