The World Mobile Congress in Spain has always been of great interest in recent years, but this year it has completely changed. Earlier this week, several major companies were withdrawing from the MWC, including Amazon, AT&T, Cisco, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, NVIDIA, Sony, Vivo, MediaTek, Deutsche Telekom and HMD Global . The primary cause of the outage was the coronavirus, which causes mass disease in China. The companies did not want to expose their employees to a potential virus infection.
Big names such as Xiaomi, Realme or Huawei, who have already reported despite the health situation, will surely be there in Barcelona, along with the missing companies.
The final decision was reached Wednesday evening: the organizer (GSMA) announced in a statement that due to the unpredictable spread of the coronavirus, the MWC 2020 will not be held this year.
The speed of the decision is a bit surprising, as even today, there was talk of a final decision at a press conference on Friday.
The decision affects a lot of people, as the annual congress in Barcelona would have given the city more than 10,000 casual jobs and nearly half a billion euros in revenue. Not to mention the tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world.
